(Sure, vengeance factored into it, but for Vergil it was more than just personal. There was the principle behind it as well, the idea that demons should fall and the third race should rise and, with its ascension, should secure the safety of humanity.)
But wanting to coddle humanity is not the same thing as wanting to be human. Vergil knows he's something different (something better). If only he could make Dante see the same thing. ]
